I am going to merge this with the main blog at blog.fatalmelon.com. I will copy across everything worth keeping and change chargrilled.fatalmelon.com and the main fatalmelon.com to redirect to the blog. There is no reason having two separate sites now that Char Grilled isn’t going to be a webcomic.

Seeing as I’m now writing Char Grilled as a book, I might as well try to get it published as, well, a book. It would be easier for readers and a greater sense of achievement for me as the author than going the webcomic-esque route I’d previously planned.

I am pretty happy with what I’ve written of Char Grilled so far, but I am going to take a break and write a few short stories as practice before continuing. They should turn up at some point on my deviantART page, but I’ll link to them from here too in case anyone reads this who doesn’t watch me on dA. Which is unlikely, as I’m pretty sure nobody reads this anyway.

Char Grilled the illustrated web novel will definitely be going ahead. Work on the first chapter is going well. I am definitely going to wait until I have completely written the first chapter before publishing anything. The first update will consist of at least a few pages, to get it off to a good start, then I’ll probably settle into one update a week.

I’m also thinking of redesigning the site.

As evidenced by the lack of updates recently, I can’t keep up very well with doing Char Grilled as a webcomic. My drawing skills are too unreliable, and not particularly great even at the best of times. I just get times, sometimes lasting hours, sometimes months, when I just can’t draw for more than short bursts.

Also, I like using words. I struggle to fit all I want my characters to say into the limitations imposed by the webcomic format, and I enjoy narration. I sometimes just think it would be so much easier and more fun to write a book.

I’ve also thought of a much cooler way for it to start, that will be more interesting and a better introduction to the characters.

For these reasons, I have recently been exploring an idea I have had for a while, and think I’m going to do it. Basically, Char Grilled will be restarting as an illustrated web novel. Basically it will be like a webcomic, but without the comickyness. I’ll make an archive for the comic version pages I’ve done so far, so they won’t be dissapearing.

It won’t be appearing immediately, as I have a lot of preparation to do (and my computer is currently dead ), but Char Grilled will be back. I’m actually quite excited.

I have added the concept pictures which have been vote incentives so far to the Gallery page, and I also uploaded the one of Blue to deviantART. Also, I’ve opened up comments on here and the blog so that they don’t need to be approved before they show up. Will has started making an emotes set for the site, which can be seen in the emote gallery.

…I love my Wacom Intuos 4 L drawing board. It is way better than my old one. I’ve just finished drawing Page 005 with it, and it was really nice. The feel of it, the accuracy, the lack of any annoying lag like my old one had… it’s all perfect. I haven’t yet experimented with different nibs for the pen, as the default one is fine. Definitely worth it.

Page 3 is up now, as is a new vote incentive: concept art of the character introduced in this page. The graphics tablet seems to be holding up for now so there should be another new page next week, maybe even finished with the shiny new one if it arrives soon enough.

My drawing board/graphics tablet/whatever you wanna call it is on it’s last legs. Assuming it doesn’t die in the meantime, the next page should be up on Tuesday.

I’m getting a Wacom Intuos4 L as a replacement, which is gonna be awesome.

Pages 001 and 002 are now redone and up and I’ve done a new vote incentive. The next page should turn up some time in the next week. I’m gonna try to get into a one update a week schedule, probably updating on a Tuesday, although seeing as today’s Sunday I doubt I’ll have the next one done by this coming Tuesday. Comments are welcome, although, for now at least, I will have to have approved at least one of your comments before they’ll start showing up.
