There are six main types of people on Rallar: humans, elvaa, dwarro, orcs, goblins and centaurs. Each have their own culture, history and unique relationship to magic.
Humans
Humans on Rallar are very similar to their Earth counterparts, but have about two thirds of have noticeable magical abilities and about a sixth have powerful magical abilities, and are referred to as mages.
Elvaa
Elvaa are slightly taller and more slender than humans, with pale skin, pointed ears and a wide range of eye colours. All elvaa are noticeably magical, and, like humans, about a sixth are powerful enough to be called mages.
The elvaa arrived on Rallar about 1500 years ago in an event which literally shook the planet, escaping their dying homeworld by turning the moon Lumoris into a sort of life raft and somehow magically moving it to orbit Rallar. Velasha, Rallar’s small red moon, started orbiting Lumoris. The elvaa founded a new homeland far to the west of Aern, before spreading to Aern and Maral. There has, however, been no contact with the the western land since the western ocean was cursed to be impassable during the Shield War.
Dwarro
The dwarro are a mysterious race, shorter than humans and elvaa. They haven’t spread much beyond their homeland of Dwarrock, far to the north-east of Aern. The main exception to this is the sizeable dwarran population in Bol’Gash province in Aern. The Bol’Gash dwarro still think of themselves as citizens of Dwarrock and see the dwarran cities in Bol’Gash as Dwarrockan territory, while, historically, the rulers of Aern have seen them as Aernan citizens. This has caused major trade disputes and a couple of wars, but there is currently an uneasy peace. Dwarran mages are very rare but very powerful.
Orcs
Orcs are tall and muscular, with leathery, hairless green skin. They are the second most abundant race in Maral, behind humans, and also inhabit Arin province in the south of Aern. The average height for an orc is over a head taller than a human or elvaa. Orcish culture is built around honour and loyalty to their family group, or clan. Each clan have a signature weapon which is crafted by the clan’s finest craftsman. For an orc to be seen in public without their clan weapon is seen as dishonouring to the clan. Orcs have no magical abilities but have a strong resistance to magic.
Goblins
Goblins are short and scrawny, with grey skin and wispy hair. Those that live in Aern live very separate from the main branches of Aernan society. The Goblin Isles are not officially considered a province of Aern because they are too unstable. Goblins have a heierarchical society, ruled by the Goblin King or Queen. The goblin monarch rules for life, and in that position life tends to be quite temporary. They have no magical abilities and have a weakness to magic, which has led to most goblins developing a superstitious fear of all things magical.
Centaurs
Centaurs have a humanoid upper body and a horselike lower half. They are very rare in Aern, a few living in western Faelin province and a few elsewhere. They keep very separate from the rest of society, mostly due to fear of being persecuted like they were in the past. For this reason information about them is vague and sketchy at best. Some seem to have some magical abilities but they don’t use them for combat, favouring longbows, large swords and spears.
